Meet Our Founder
Emily Prentice-Blackett is the Founder and Principal of Merrifield Law. A citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis and a national of the United States Virgin Islands, she has practised law in St. Kitts and Nevis since being called to the Bar in 2016.
Mrs. Blackett obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, and her Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School.
She has experience appearing before the Magistrate’s Court, High Court and Court of Appeal, and also co-authored the Chambers and Partners Global Real Estate Practice Guide for St. Kitts and Nevis, 2020 edition.
Mrs. Blackett’s approach to legal practice is grounded in careful analysis, attention to detail and a practical understanding of what clients need from their lawyer. She is particularly attentive to the distinction between what the law permits, what a client actually needs, and what is practical in the circumstances.
Whether working through a complicated legal issue, drafting a document, researching a question or advising on a legal matter, she takes care to understand the details, identify the issues that matter, and develop a clear and workable way forward.
Mrs. Blackett’s practice encompasses both contentious and non-contentious legal work. She works with individuals, businesses and clients overseas, combining traditional legal services with the accessibility and convenience of modern communication.
Merrifield Law was founded on the belief that legal services should be professional and thorough without being unnecessarily complicated or inaccessible.
